Scrapbooking Workshop Garage

What needs to be done before starting

Here are some things to consider as you create your workshop.

  • Shelves and storage space
You will want to have ample shelves and storage space in order to keep your scrapbooking organized. You will also want this so that you can find things as you need them. Consider shelves that are easy for you to reach. They can be either open or closed, but they should be accessible from the worktable. Uses baskets, boxes, jars, and other devices to store items that you do not want to disappear. Make use of the walls in order to avoid clutter on the floor.

Before you go out to buy anything, you should get accurate measurements of the space that you have available. Sketch it out and take your drawing with you when you do your shopping.

  • Lighting
We put lighting first because it is critical. You do not want to avoid proper lighting, as this can lead to headaches as you begin to work on your hobby. The overall lighting in the garage is important, because this is not something that was likely focused on when the space was originally built. Remember to add electrical outlets where needed to add any lamps that you might want to use. You will want to have additional lighting to go over your worktable. Add in some windows in order to let the natural light in during the day.
  • Electricity
This is another area that most garages are not built taking into account. You may need to add some outlets in order to put them in strategic locations. A qualified electrician should do this in order to ensure that everything is properly grounded. Remember to avoid extension cords at all costs, as they create a safety hazard. If you use any electrical tools, keep the cord to a maximum of 5 feet in length.
  • Worktable
You will want to consider putting in the largest table that your garage can comfortably handle. Make sure the surface area is about 3 square feet. The surface should be smooth, as this will make it easier to clean. Also, work to keep the table clear of any materials, unless you are using them at that particular moment. Ideally, the largest table you can manage will be the most practical.
  • Your work chair
Your chair is very important, so you will not want to neglect this point. Make sure that the one you select can easily swivel and that it is adjustable.
  • Flooring
You will want a comfortable floor under your work area, so consider carpet that is sufficient enough to move your chair all around with ease.
  • Heating and ventilation
You will want to make sure that your garage has sufficient insulation to keep you comfortable in the winters. You also need to add in some ventilation in order to account for any aerosol products that you use in the course of your scrapbooking activities.

There will definitely be other things to consider as you create the perfect workshop area for you, but this should get you headed in the right direction. You will bring your own unique spin to this hobby, so personalize your area and make it your own. Just take it slow, see what is available, and plan out the perfect area that you will happy with for years to come.
