The Most Stylish Outdoor Elements for Your Home In 2022 With Matching Garage Doors

What causes people to want to makeover their homes? A variety of things can lead to a complete makeover – damage to the original elements, a big bonus, maybe even a midlife crisis. Sometimes it happens when the home is going up for sale. And other instances – it was just that time.

“Renovating not only restores the house – but it restores the story of the home and neighborhood.”

If you’re like us, you love the design elements of areas crafted with all-glass garage doors. This is a California 12' x 7' see-through garage door. The design is black trim with clear glass. Notice how the siding of the building and trim around the door tie the area together.

Is There a Specific Building Style That Speaks to You the Most?

It doesn’t matter how original you are. At some point or another, you’re going to have to rely on trends to help you with a renovation or new construction project. Whether it’s design styles or prices, at some point the information will come in handy. Honestly, they go hand-and-hand, so you might as well get initiated with the most popular four styles to give yourself some motivation.

This Is the Transitional Style

2 story Transitional / Modern Farmhouse / Scandinavian style house plan, 2 single garage doors, in Flush design and Black colour

This is a classic Transitional Style home brought to you by Anne Paquet Design. Flush design garage doors in Black can pull the colors from the roof and smaller window trims and tie the whole house together.

“We shape our homes, and then they shape us.”

The Transitional Style home has been a go-to for remodelers and new construction builders for decades. It seems that the popularity hits peaks and valleys, but it never truly goes out of style. Recently, this style has been heating back up. It has elements of modern andtraditional, which earn it the nickname classic modern.

The Transitional Style is ideal for a home exterior that stays in fashion for years. This style is becoming more and more popular. We could say that it is a cross between modern and traditional. Another name for it is classic modern.

What is a traditional-style home?

  • Traditional style homes are the most commonly built in the United States
  • They have symmetrically placed windows
  • Simple rooflines
  • Modest details

What is a modern-style home?

  • Modern homes are typically made of concrete or reinforced steel.
  • They use large beams and wooden accents to contrast the raw construction design.
  • These homes are most commonly found in areas like Oakland, CA, and Seattle, WA.

The transitional blends these 2 styles and has the following characteristics:

  • The lines are basic but symmetrical.
  • The color scheme consists of more natural colors like beige and warm white.
  • When wood is used, the preference is typically white oak.

Notice the garage door with clean, sharp, well-defined lines. This works best with the Transitional style. This is the Moderno 2 beads design, 12'6" x 9', in Black with Azur windows.

Transitional homes seem to work better with smooth, lustrous garage doors. Designs like the Flush or Moderno 2 beads designs are picture definitions of the types of garage doors you should use with the Transitional Style.

Meet the Modern Style

Modern style house plan including various proportions and wood insertions for more energy. Double garage with all-glass California garage doors, Black frame, Sandblasted Glass for more privacy

Modern Style homes go GREAT with full-glass garage doors. This Anne Paquet Design looks like it was made for the California full-view garage doors. The frame of the small windows matches the frame of the garage door perfectly. Sandblasted glass eliminates the need for any privacy concerns.

The old square homes aren’t as popular as they used to be. They haven’t been for a while. The trend is now to use varying proportions, shapes, spaces, heights, widths, and dimensions. This gives the house a lot more character and breaks the monotony of the plain “square” house.

The Modern Style lets the designs and shapes do the talking instead of the colors. Basic shades like gray, white, and black dominate this style. However, many designers allow the tones of the wood and the stone to act as a contrast to these colors, pulling them out and giving the home some character. The magic is in the large windows, though. Everything takes place around the windows, so things like the trim become important.

Everything about this garage door screams modern. This is a selection known as Vog from Garaga. There’s a front door with the same design - Novatech entry door is the spitting image of the garage door. This makes a special combination.

The Modern style of home first became popular around the turn of the 20th century. In 1922, the first modern home was built in West Hollywood by famous Austrian architect Rudolf Schindler. Initially, the plans were denied by the city because the home lacked many of the elements of the traditional home.

There are plenty of modern-style garage doors like the Vog, Moderno multi, or Grooved designs. These go perfectly with modern-style home designs, especially if you use dull, darker colors. Metallic colors work very well, whether they’re silver metallics, darker metallics, or even red metallics (think copper).

Selection 3 Is Technically 2 Styles: The Farmhouse and Modern Farmhouse

Farmhouses have design elements all their own. These styles continue to rise in popularity and exist pretty much anywhere you travel.

Contrasting blacks and whites work out well in the Farmhouse and Modern Farmhouse styles. The house above was designed by Plan Image # 22001. It’s almost a pure Farmhouse design. The exterior lights and the warm touch of the wooden pillars in the front give it a nice kiss of modernity. Homes like this look great from the end of the driveway. Your garage door is important because of how much of the face area it takes up. This double door is the Cambridge CM design from the Townships Collection.

Believe it or not, the Farmhouse and Modern Farmhouse designs are the most popular styles of 2022. People call it a blend of Country and Modern. You might even hear Scandinavian thrown into the mix.

Country-style homes draw their inspiration from traditional barns, cabins, and Farmhouse designs. They’re crafted from wood most of the time, with a primary characteristic of a large, spacious porch.

If either of these designs sounds appealing to you, you’ll love the garage doors that go with them. They’re crafted to look like the old swinging garage doors. But what’s even more impressive is the technical side of them.

  • They’re made with real PVC overlay.
  • The doors are created from insulated steel and rated at an R-16.
  • They look like wood, but that’s just a design element.

You’ll have plenty of colors and overlays to choose from, as well.

Last But Not Least Is the Scandinavian

Scandinavian Style house plan. Its blond wood contrasting with black windows and front door, as well as the gable and beams over the entry door, which echo the triangular window and the slope of the roof.

This is a classic Scandinavian home plan. Turn your attention toward the simplistic beauty of this home. You don’t see much going on, even on the interior. It’s the basics that make this design beautiful. The lines of the wood are a perfect contrast to the triangles of the roof. The barely noticeable black trim on the door brings the color down from the roof and ties everything together.

The Scandinavian design is fashioned after Swedish-style farmhouses. These are normally two-story wooden houses with bright colors, lots of windows, and light, raw wood used for any pillars.

The main idea of the Scandinavian home is to bring you closer to nature.

In Scandinavia, everyone is surrounded by nature. This is true even in urban areas. These elements shine through in the style of the Scandinavian homes where nature dominates. The lines stand out as they do in nature and the raw wood elements are simple but beautiful.

These garage doors will probably be your best bet:

These Are the Best Palettes and Building Materials for These 4 Styles

The colors aren’t what dominate these styles. You’re going to want raw materials to bring the textures to the forefront.

  • For the main exterior surfaces, your best options are going to be vinyl, cedar shingles, brick, and stone. However, the brick is going to be more rustic and unfinished (unless you’re using the classic cement style of the modern home).
  • Fiber cement panels and planks are primarily used for the Farmhouses and the Scandinavians. However, you can get away with using them for Modern style homes as well. These tend to be a little bit more economical as far as durability – they can take quite a bit of damage.
  • Wood inserts. You can use wood inserts pretty much anywhere on the exterior for Farmhouses, Scandinavians, and Traditional style homes. You can get away with using them in the Transitional style because of these homes’traditional elements. Typically, they wouldn’t be used for Modern homes as much.

If You Already Know What Visual Elements You Want Out of Your Garage Door – The Insulation Is All That’s Left to Decide

A well-insulated door is sometimes the only thing that stands between you and a sky-high utility bill during the summer or winter.

Consider going the extra mile for insulation if your garage contains any of the following elements:

  • Attached to the home and is air-conditioned or heated.
  • Attached to the home and not air-conditioned or heated, but you commonly use the access door.
  • If anyone lives in the garage.
  • If you have sensitive materials in the garage.
  • If you’ve converted the garage to a mancave, movie theater, or any other type of family space.

The Princeton P-12, 9' x 8', Iron Ore Walnut garage doors and Ice White overlays, 8-pane Panoramic windows really enhance this Craftman home while providing R-16 insulation.

These Princeton P-12 garage doors add to the style of this home, but they also offer R-16 insulation that protects the interior from temperature fluctuations. Each door also includes 8 lite Panoramic windows to maximize natural light, making that space one of the most sought-after in the home. We love the Walnut Ore color here, but they can also be had in Black or Ice White if you prefer.

The higher the R-value you choose, the more your garage door is going to be prepared for the elements. Low R-ratings are likely to let in a lot of cold or heat from the outside. This will make your energy bills significantly higher than a high-R value door.

Proudly made in Canada, Garaga garage doors use a ground-breaking design that incorporates elements of insulation in between the individual door panels.

This adds another cool element, as well. If one part of the door gets damaged, you can still save the rest and fix it using a repair job. This design allows for that. Normally if one part of the garage door takes a hit, the whole thing is done. You might as well trash it.

Standard+ Construction and the Townships Collection Construction did a great job of putting this room together.

This small California all-glass garage door brings a lot of light into the all white office of this lady from Montreal, Canada.

The all-glass garage door isn’t going to be the best for insulation, but it is ideal for having a plant space. Notice the glazed, brilliant white floor and the white on the rest of the room. This color scheme will do a great job of keeping the heat down in the summertime.

Have you noticed the popularity of the California?

These doors are all glass with an aluminum frame. Aluminum is a very good thermal conductor. So California doors won’t offer the same level of insulation as steel garage doors insulated with polyurethane foam. Sometimes you must sacrifice efficiency for visual elements. After all, nothing puts you close to nature like the California and other full-view garage doors.
