Tips for Selecting a Garage Door Dealer

Garaga dealers

Is there any truth to that old adage about getting what you pay for? Interestingly, the answer to that can be both yes and no. That is because you don’t want to go the cheapest route for most things, but overpaying and thinking it means top quality is not exactly wise. This is true whether it is an everyday product or something like a garage door system.

It can be tempting to keep money in your pocket, but that means you probably get lower product quality, less service and less experience or knowledge on the part of the dealer. A lower quote for a garage door system may mean a shorter than average lifespan on the system, lots of service calls, and even cheap parts.

Of course, thinking that paying the highest price may mean the same! A higher than average quote means you need to dig in and see just why the total cost is so much more. That means asking questions, learning a bit about systems, and figuring out of the dealer is to be trusted.

In the end, the goal is to get a quality product that lasts a long time and that means knowing how to choose the best dealer. The following tips will help you do just that.

  • Investigate Each Company

Don’t take all that a company’s website claims. Since most of us only buy one or two garage doors in our lifetime, it pays to learn as much as you can about any company. Do this by reading online reviews, getting in touch with a company and asking for examples of their work AND references from past clients. Then actually contact a few of them to ask if they would recommend the company.

Also, be sure the garage door dealer is fully licensed and insured under the mandatory provincial or state licenses. Ask if they belong to any industry associations because this means they would have to adhere to their ethics and codes of conduct.

  • Test Customer Service

A reliable garage door dealer should have a showroom that you can visit, and one way of testing their quality of service is to visit that site yourself. Is it tidy and organized? Do the staff seem helpful and informed? If so, you can see this as a sign they are also conscientious and thorough, and you can expect this as a client.

However, also ask them about service calls. For example, how many service vehicles cover your home’s general area? How promptly do they guarantee a return call and repair visit? Do their service providers keep parts on hand and ready for installation during the initial visit? Answers to these questions should give you an accurate idea of what you can expect from that company.

Just because a website depicts a long row of service trucks and boasts of premium sales, service and installation does not make it true. You will want to do some research of your own to be sure you’ll get what you expect.

  • Expect Prompt Replies

Lastly, if you submit questions through website contact forms, you should expect prompt responses. You can contact us online or by phone. Our staff can show you examples of local work and provide references. We will take the time to offer advice and multiple solutions that fit your needs and budget, and we always provide a quotation by email.

As we advised, you might also wish to visit our showroom or visit the Design Centre to see what different doors will look like on your home.
